Quorum Social Club Rules

These rules are based on those first issued in 1986 and later revised in 1988.  Changes, where agreed at subsequent AGM's have also been incorporated.  These rules were ratified by the committee in September 2004.

A Quorum Social Club member shall be responsible, enthusiastic, active outgoing person (single, separated, divorced), aged 35 or over, who wished primarily to make new friends and enjoy sharing their individual interests by way of regularly organising a diary event for the benefit of the other group members

  1. A Quorum member, shall be an active committee member, or ordinary member who has paid their Membership Fee and continues to organise the minimum number of events during each year of membership.

  2. The membership fee (£15 per year for 2010/11) shall be payable at the start of the year, or within one month thereafter of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for current members, to cover the cost of membership during the subsequent year.  There will be a £5 discount for new members.

  3. All services of the group contacts (i.e. the committee) with respect to the overall administration of the Quorum shall be rendered free. For this service the telephone contact (who incur telephone costs) shall be exempted from the annual membership fee.

  4. An AGM will be held in the first quarter of the year to review the clubs affairs during the proceeding year; review the accounts; agree rule changes and to elect the new committee.

  5. The minimum number of events for all members shall be TWO per year.

  6. Club activities will be advertised to other members using the Quorum website, the Quorum web-calendar or by e-mail.  (The old paper based diary has been discontinued).

  7. An account shall be kept of the fees and costs (i.e. promotions, subsidies, insurance, stationary, typing, copying and postage), which shall be presented at the AGM.

  8. The fees shall be reviewed annually at the AGM, and shall always be the minimum necessary to cover the anticipated costs. Any alterations to the fees shall be decided by the members at the AGM.

  9. Members shall notify the member hosting an event of their intention to attend an event, and similarly if they have to cancel.

  10. Various promotions and subsidies may be instigated from time to time, up to a maximum of £30 per event, at the discursion of the committee and on production of a receipt. Christmas and New Year parties may be subsidised up to a maximum of £50 each.

  11. Quorum is a non-profit making organisation. Members may charge a nominal amount to cover the cost of their events. No member shall profit from any of the clubs activities. If a surplus should result, then those monies should be returned to the Quorum funds.

  12. Membership information, including details of events, is confidential. It is not permitted for members to copy details of events for non-members use. Anyone discovered to have done so, will be removed from the membership of Quorum.

  13. The WEB site area is for advertising our club to the general public. Personal information should not be published in this public area without that persons consent.

  14. Quorum e-mail sent to members individually, or using a distribution list at the QuorumSocialClub.co.uk domain, should be for the purpose of carrying out the clubs activities. E-mail messages should be kept small and large attachments avoided.

  15. The Quorum committee reserve the right to refuse membership to any person who, in their opinion, does not meet the entrance requirements or abide by the membership rules. In the case of any disputes, the decision of the committee is final.
